Favorite Things: Kind Bars

Everyone who attended the women’s retreat got a little goodie bag. In my goodie bag was a Kind bar (dark chocolate, nuts & sea salt). For whatever reason, I did not eat my bar during the retreat. Ok, I know the reason. The reason is I had purchased a giant honking candy bar from the hotel gift shop and spent days working my way through it. But I took my Kind bar back with me to North Carolina. I put it in my cabinet. Then I moved. I took my Kind bar with me and put it in a new cabinet. And then, about a week ago, I finally ate it.

That’s right. I ate my free Kind bar about six weeks after receiving it. I am not sure if that makes me a lazy eater. I am pretty sure it makes me dedicated though. Seriously, I took this bar with me on a plane and then I moved houses with it. Why it took me so long to get around to eating it is anyone’s guess.

But guess what? I am now totally addicted to them (and specifically the dark chocolate one that I got for free at the retreat).

You can read up on Kind on their site, but know this: everything in them is non-GMO and, for a bar, it is very low in sugar (5g in my bar). When I eat this bar, I feel full and I am not hungry again 30 minutes later. Sometimes I eat these for breakfast (at 200 calories they are perfect). Other times for a snack. I love the nuts/chocolate combination, and it’s been a great way to get more nuts into my diet. Their site also notes that everything in the bar is all natural. I read my label. I know exactly what I am eating when I have one of these bars.

The bars are a bit on the expensive side, but honestly all stuff like this tends to be on the expensive side. If you buy them  through Amazon, it looks like a 12 pack would be just over 1.50 per bar. I’ve paid as much as 1.80 per bar, and I have had zero regrets. The way I see it, I get what I pay for.

There’s multiple flavors of Kind bars. I’m just fixated on the dark chocolate (and really, is anyone surprised by this?). Buy one, try it, tell me what you think!

I agree! They are delicious but a little pricey! There’s a peanut chocolate one that’s great too. And maybe a chocolate pecan? I also end up getting the chocolate ones….

I believe they are 1.49 at Trader Joes. I don’t mind the price as nuts in general are pricy. I love the cherry dark chocolate ones, a touch of fruit and chocolate that is not too sweet. Yummm!

How do you think they compare to Cliff Bars? If they are good, 1.50-2.00 isn’t too bad. I get Cliff Bars for .99 at Traders Joes. If these are better, that’s not a huge difference.

I’m not a fan of Cliff Bars, but this could be a personal preference. I think they are light years better.

Oooo. This information is very useful. I’m not a fan of Cliff Bars at all, and I tend to assume that all of the brands of these bars are basically the same (which is to say, not tasty to me!). Kind bars might be worth a try!

I love Kind bars – for so many of the reasons you do. Reasonable amount of calories, low sugar, non-GMO, relatively unprocessed and totally delish. I really like that I can find them in a gas station/mini mart if I’m in a bind.

I love KIND bars! Vitacost.com is a great place to buy them, especially if you use a $10 off your order. The Almond-Walnut-Macadamia+Protein is really good and so is the Dark Chocolate w/Peanut Butter! I’ve read a lot of about “bars” in general and they seem to be ranked near the top regularly.

My husband picked up some Kind granola over the weekend and is really enjoying it. I saw the bars on sale last night for $1.25, so I splurged and bought 4 different ones. I had almond/walnut/macadamia + protein for breakfast this morning and it was delicious! Way better than any of the other bars I’ve tried. I think I’ll run back and pick up some more this weekend while the price is right. I’ve got the dark chocolate one you got for free at home. I’ll probably try that next! Thanks for the recommendation. I am confident I would’ve continued to lump them in with “all those other bars that I don’t like” without your discussion! 🙂

That’s awesome Meg! I’m generally hesitant about trying new bars myself. I often don’t like most of them, but I’ve tried to get in the habit of trying a new one now and then. Since this one was free it was no big loss if I didn’t like it! The dark chocolate are my favorite one.
